Reflection group exhibition
Curators: Sima Barber & Ronit Dayan Vishovki
The “Reflection” exhibition is a three-dimensional dialogue between artistic inspiration, a pencil-on-paper architectural sketch, and a three-dimensional art creation. Nine architects responded to the curators’ request, allowing access to the most personal stage of the architectural vision – pencil lines that will turn into buildings.
The architect selected for me is Avner Koblenz from “UrbanGap” Architecture. I chose two sketches that I connected with. At first glance, the breathtaking rhythmic compositions of the sketches aroused my curiosity. At a closer look, I realized how beautifully intuitive and abstract these sketches are in their mix of Cubism and Modernism. Surprisingly there are absolutely no mathematical calculations in Koblenz’s initial sketches. They feel like pure creations of his artistic heart and intuitive mind and hand before converting them to computer programs.
The patterns instantly reminded me of Dutch artists Piet Mondriaan (especially his composition No. 4, see below side by side) and Jan Schoonhoven, masters of bare, minimalistic, timeless, abstract art and my earliest inspirations. I also explore temporality, rhythm, and fluidity in my artworks’ intricate patterns and dominant repetitive flows.
As a Dutch-Israeli artist, fusing the two worlds into one is exciting. Best of all, the result is an entirely new technique I developed that fits perfectly into my unique signature contemporary paper art style of aesthetically arranging hundreds of hand-torn papers.
The Reflection group exhibition will be on show at the Omer Tiroche Gallery, 8 Kikar Kdumim, Old Jaffo, Israel, from the 23rd until the 31st of December 2020 ( will be prolonged after the third lockdown).
