The Sentiments of Change Series 2021 is a unique joint project of the talented Bikaku Studio and paper artist Bianca Severijns for the Fresh Paint art fair, Tel Aviv, 2021
After the summer of 2019, both Bikaku Studio and Bianca Severijns had their solo exhibitions presented by the Periscope Design Gallery in Tel Aviv. From the first meeting, the desire to collaborate arose.
Both Bikaku Studio and Bianca Severijns use the elements of nature in their works as their starting point. Common to both is the use of raw materials that embody nature within them and undergo an artistic and technical design ploy by the artists into a man-made object which echoes the same process the material goes through. The raw materials are devoted to handicrafts, changing and embodying a different essence. Their texture is deceptive to the eye; sometimes, only the hand’s touch will reveal the material.
Metal forms the base of Bikaku Studio’s works, and it is a hard material that requires fiery heat to soften; it is shaped by strenuous hammer blows and requires the knowledge stored in the craft.
The cotton-based paper in Bianca’s works, a delicate and thin material torn by her skilled hands, is glued piece by piece and shaped into organic reliefs and tapestries with volume.
The artworks created especially for this project within the artistic collaboration they have built maintain a tension between these materials and techniques. The fragile versus the heavy, the full versus the empty, and the transient versus the sustainable were the interests in this encounter.
