paper art Earth Skins Series |2016 -2015
In the paper art Earth Skin Series, Severijns’ artworks focus on paper texture and abstract compositions that are inspired by nature. She is especially intrigued by the cycle point at which there is total bareness, vulnerability, decay and disintegration. She captures these temporalities by photographing nature, mostly in a contrasting urban setting, and uses the images as a source of inspiration.
Her artwork ” Leaves Gathering” provides an experience of hundreds of fallen Eucalyptus leaves. The image created is not trying to be a visual representation of nature, but presents an ode to the ever-returning cycle of fallen leaves and the beautiful patterns they keep on creating. The work frames a moment of leaves gathering: gracious, spontaneous and free. “As an artist, I am binding myself, through my art, to my new homeland and the amazing Earth Skins I discover daily“.
