What makes our house a “home”? Naturally, we don’t want our interior to project a “copy-paste- showroom” style, so we surround ourselves with the things we love: pictures, books, collections and treasures from our travels speak volumes about our range of interest and create a unique “at-home” atmosphere. They are an expression of our taste and are the source of our home’s unique and authentic atmosphere.
Yet, as far as art is concerned, a deeper level prevails. Art has a higher calling: to nurture and connect you to your senses and emotions. When you purchase art, you should feel thrilled and emotionally connected to it. Your chosen art piece, whether a painting, a photograph or a sculpture, should touch your inner soul. Buying art should never be entirely for the reason of investment or a wish to own an object of desire.
As you have to live with your art on a daily basis, it should never have the status of yet another piece of furniture. As an artist, I believe that a well chosen work of art will have a positive effect on your life. Art has the power to create and enhance feelings of happiness, compassion, peacefulness, closeness and even intimacy.
Today someone told me my artwork gives her tremendous inspiration. I was deeply moved by her words. I identify with her: I am very attached to a photograph of an olive tree that has moved with me to six different locations within different countries. Each time I moved, I would hang the photo in my new home, without any doubt. The olive tree represents strength: even when you cut its trunk to the ground, new branches sprout and eventually grow into a new tree. Every time I look at this photo, I feel connected to an inner strength.
Yes, when art meets your interior, it should definitely empower you and the space you live in! Don’t you agree?
